In August 2016, Irvine Company announced a partnership with Google Fiber to bring gigabit internet to many of its properties in the City of Irvine. Irvine was named Google Fiber's first Southern California city. Irvine Company had been laying empty conduit in its developments since the mid-1980s, which made installing fiber much easier.
