Why Orange County has two Spectrum networks

North and central OC were always Spectrum. South OC was Cox, which became Spectrum in 2026.

For years, Orange County was split between two cable companies: Spectrum (Charter) in much of north and central OC, and Cox in areas including Irvine, Mission Viejo and parts of Newport Beach. Charter completed its acquisition of Cox on August 20, 2026, and began moving Cox markets to Spectrum branding in mid-September.

What that means for you

  • Former Cox customers keep the same physical network, now under the Spectrum name.
  • Plans, pricing and apps may change. Read your account notices and compare bills.
  • Use only official websites and apps during the switch. Scammers target brand changes.

Good time to compare

If your price changes, compare AT&T Fiber, Google Fiber (in parts of Irvine and nearby), Frontier (Huntington Beach) and open-access fiber (Fullerton).
